エアマスク − 空気の流れで、ウィルスを吸い込むのを防ぐエアマスク
COVID-19は、私たちに恐怖をもたらし、世界の既成概念を根本から破壊してしまいました。でもポジティブな面から観てみると、私たちの視点を変えて、今後より良く生きるためのアイデアを様々な分野において残していったといえます。しかし喉元を過ぎれば熱さを忘れてしまう私たち人間が、直接的な問題が収束するにつれせっかく思いついたアイデアを忘れてしまわないようにするにはどうしたらよいでしょうか。
COVID-19 has brought us fear and has fundamentally destroyed the preconceptions of the world. But on the positive side, it has changed our perspective and left us with ideas on how to live better in the future, in many areas. But what can we do to make sure that we don't forget the ideas we've had as the immediate problems come to an end?
呼吸する建築 − 自らを変形させて空気を換気する建物
「Innovation Seeds List」はそんな考えを基に行ったプロジェクトです。東京大学生産技術研究所(IIS) DLX Design Labの「Design Thinking」を活用して、COVID-19に関する問題に対してコンセプト・アイデアを開発して総覧を作り、直接的な問題解決だけでなく、今後のイノベーションを誘発するThought-starterとしても活用し、未来の研究に役立てていくことを目的として、新型コロナウイルス感染症対策のための研究活動支援によって行われました。
The "Innovation Seeds List" is a project based on this idea. Using "Design Thinking" in the DLX Design Lab of the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) at the University of Tokyo, we have developed a list of concepts and ideas for COVID-19 problems, which will be used not only for direct problem solving, but also as a Thought-starter for future innovation. The aim of the project was to develop a comprehensive overview of the COVID-19 problem and to use it not only as a direct solution to the problem, but also as a thought-starter to stimulate future innovation. This was done by supporting research activities to combat new coronavirus infections.
エアカーテン − 公共交通機関において人との間の空気の流れをコントロールする事ができる
プロセスとしては、IISの12研究室に協力を得て、コロナ禍の中、オンラインでトレジャーハンティングと名付けている研究室へのヒアリング、そしてワークショップを行い、デザイナーと研究者という学際的なメンバーにてコンセプト・アイデアを出し合い、オンライン上にマインドマップとイラスト化したアイデア総覧をまとめたデジタルインタラクティブプラットフォームを制作しました。また緊急・直接的な問題はWith Corona、そして将来的に応用できるアイデアはPost Coronaとして分類しています。例えば今回世界中の人が経験している「外界に生命の危機があるため限られた空間で生活しなければならない」とういう問題は、想像力次第で、Post Coronaのアイデアとして宇宙関連分野に活用できる訳です。
The process involved interviews and workshops with twelve IIS laboratories, which we called "treasure hunting" online in the coronavirus crisis. We created a digital interactive platform with a mind map and a list of illustrated ideas. We categorised urgent and immediate problems as With Corona, and ideas that could be applied in the future as Post Corona. For example, the problem that people all over the world are experiencing at the moment, of having to live in a confined space due to the threat of life in the outside world, can be used as a Post Corona idea in the space-related field, with your imagination.
プライベートエアースペース − 避難所で他人の臭いを避け各個人の空間を維持できるエアコン
今回コラボレーションした研究者の一人、長谷川洋介准教授の専門分野は界面輸送工学で、身近なところに様々な姿で存在している流体、空気・水・血液などや、その流れに伴う熱や物質の輸送現象を、結果から原因を探る逆解析という数学的手法を使って自在に制御する研究をしています。様々な新しい価値観が生まれている中、COVID-19問題に大きく関連する空気の価値も変わってきています。今後は空気を制御する技術がさらに発展して、もっと大きなスケールでの空気の流れである「風」をデザインして、夏の夕暮れの心地良い海風を再現することができるようになるかもしれません。そしてこれらのイノベーションの種が、コロナ禍で大変な思いをした世界中の人たちの経験を糧にして少しずつ育っていくことを願います。
One of our collaborators, Associate Professor Yosuke Hasegawa, specialises in interfacial transport engineering, the study of the transport of fluids, such as air, water, and blood, which exist in various forms in our daily lives, and associated transport of heat and various chemical species, using the mathematical techniques of inverse analysis to find the causes from the results. The value of air, which is of great relevance to the COVID-19 issue, is also changing as new values emerge. In the future, the technology to control air will be further developed, and we may be able to design "wind", the flow of air in a larger scale, to reproduce a pleasant sea breeze at sunset in summer. And we hope that the seeds of these innovations will gradually grow from the experiences of people all over the world who have suffered so much from the coronavirus crisis.
