Get involved in Design Lab

The objective of Design Lab is to have wide influence and impact, and we are keen to build connections and start collaborations with external partners.

There are a number of different ways to get involved and each will have different benefits for those participating.

Join the Design Lab creative network

The Lab is connected to a local and global network of creators and
innovators through collaboration with educational institutions and creative industries.

Being part of this network gives you access to global insights in the field of innovation, and to the newest practice in the creative world.

Participate in our Design Education Programme

IIS is part of The University of Tokyo covering almost all fields of applied science and engineering. It consists of five research departments and research center groups, and approximately 160 active laboratories. Its missions are to solve engineering problems; provide a bridge between academics and practice; and develop human resource. Significant historical developments include: the creation of the pencil rocket (Hideo Itokawa) and the photocatalytic function of titanium dioxide (Kenichi Honda, Akira Fujishima), and has produced numerous state-of-the-art technologies.

Explore the forefront of technology and design

We also conduct in-depth design research projects each year that  may have a particular benefit for your company. These projects explore the frontiers of science or technology such
as bio-engineering or new interfaces. Companies can join as member participants in these projects.

Start your own Corporate Innovation MicroLab

The Lab offers the opportunity to run a MicroLab project tailored to your company’s needs. A team would be put together and a project plan co-designed to create tangible and
deployable innovation ideas. Funding for this type of project varies with complexity. Your company employees could also join as MicroLab members.
